"Smoke-free Catering Force" Programme

A survey found that the smoking prevalence in the catering industry is quite high. To protect the health of catering employees and the public, COSH organizes the “Smoke-free Catering Force” programme with the aims to boost the participation of the industry in promoting smoke-free messages among stakeholders. The programme includes the “Premier Smoke-free Restaurant” recognition for restaurants demonstrating commitment to promoting smoke-free culture and a“Smoke-free Cooking Contest” for the general public to motivate smokers to kick the smoking habit by sharing a healthy menu with the cost of a pack of cigarettes (HK$60).

"Towards a Tobacco Endgame in Hong Kong" Conference cum Reception for the 35th Anniversary of Tobacco Control in Hong Kong 

2017 marks the 35th anniversary of tobacco control as well as the 10th anniversary of indoor smoking ban in Hong Kong. To review the milestone for the achievements in tobacco control in Hong Kong, prepare for future challenges ahead and develop blueprint for a smoke-free Hong Kong, Department of Health and COSH jointly organize the “Towards a Tobacco Endgame in Hong Kong” Conference on 1 December 2017 (Friday). Continuing professional education points have been approved by major professional institutions of doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists. A Reception will be hosted by COSH after the Conference to gather all parties to commemorate the 35th anniversary of tobacco control in Hong Kong.

School Interactive Education Theatre "Where is Daddy"

This year’s prorgramme is co-organized by the Education Bureau and produced and performed by Chung Ying Theatre. A brand-new drama titled “Where is Daddy” was launched with a premiere held at Yuen Long Theatre on 12 October 2017 for over 300 students, teachers and guests.

Elderly Smoking Cessation Promotion Project 2017-18 "It's never too late, act now and quit smoking"

A series of activities were organized to convey the smoke-free messages and advice of smoking cessation to the elderly, including health talks, visits to elderly centres, TV promotions, sharing of successful quit stories, etc. A publicity event was held on 26 October 2017 to launch the premiere of the promotion clips to clear the misconceptions about smoking. The Project has spread the smoke-free messages to nearly 20,000 elderly.

New API "Stay Away"


In recent years, COSH produced a series of Announcement of Public Interests (APIs) under the theme of “Quit Smoking” which received wide public support. New API , “Stay away” was launched in October 2017 to encourage smokers to protect the next generation from secondhand smoke and prevent them from picking up the smoking habit by being a smoke-free role model and quitting smoking. The API also urges the public to support their family and friends to build a healthy lifestyle and strive for a smoke-free Hong Kong.



WHO alerts: Not to accept collaboration from tobacco industry and its Foundation for a Smoke-free World


The Secretariat of WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) issued a statement to refute an organization, Foundation for a Smoke-Free World (the Foundation), which is funded by the tobacco industry. The Secretariat denounced it as an attempt to interfere public health policy and damage the implementation of the convention.
